Max Yu, PhD

Max Yu joins the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School as an adjunct faculty member in 2024. He has over 15 years of industrial experience with large institutional asset managers. Currently, Max is working as the Associate Director of Markets & Quant Research at Macquarie Asset Management. Prior to joining Macquarie, he was a Vice President of the group and Senior Risk Manager in T. Rowe Price's multi-asset division. Max has also served as the regional head of fixed income risk platform solutions at UBS Asset Management and as the head of portfolio implementation at Mesirow Financial. Education

Residencies at Carey Business School

The Flexible MBA program at Carey offers a few courses with a required two-day, in-person residency. Sections of three courses – Negotiation, Business Communication, and Leadership and Organizational Behavior – require online students to experience elements of interpersonal interactions to achieve learning goals. Residencies are an opportunity to truly experience the Carey Business School community and network with faculty, staff, and other students.

A typical residency lasts two days and includes opportunities for students to learn directly from their professor, collaborate with other students, and hear from outside speakers. These courses can also be taken in a virtual setting, so no student is obligated to take the sections with an in-person residency component.

Safety checklist for students

  • Program the Public Safety emergency number in your phone: 410-234-9301 for Harbor East or 202-663-5808 for Washington DC.
  • Download the free LiveSafe app to your phone. Users can Purchase a U-Lock to secure your bike. U-Locks provide call, text, and submit tips to Public Safety in real time - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Never respond to a request for personal or financial information that you didn’t anticipate. Never pay some-one who insists on receiving gift cards or wired money.
  • Visit the JHU Public Safety website to review crime prevention tips.
  • Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team: BHCST provides immediate assistance and support to students in crisis. Call 410-516-WELL or visit JHU Student Well-Being.
  • Access Blue Jay Shuttles through the TransLoc app. Users can track shuttles and request pickups via the app or by visiting ondemand.transloc.com.
  • Purchase a U-Lock to secure your bike. U-Locks provide a higher level of security than cable locks.
  • Photograph valuables and note serial numbers. This information is important if valuables are missing. Register your valuables with Public Safety
  • Install computer locating software This security feature is helpful in tracking missing devices
  • Office of Institutional Equity: OIE is a valuable resource for victims, as they investigate reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. Visit OIE for more information.

If you are in an emergency off-campus

  • Immediately comply with demands and give up your property, don't give up your life.
  • Call 911 immediately and seek out the police
  • Contact Carey.Security@jhu.edu to report the incident after you are safe

David O. Harper, Ed.D.

Dr. David Harper joined the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in 1994 as a Faculty Associate. In this role, he continued to distinguish himself by demonstrating his ability to facilitate the learning process at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 1998, he was selected as Teacher of the Year in the JHU Information Technology Division. In April 2011, he was appointed to Senior Professional Instructor.
