The Flexible MBA program at Carey offers a few courses in an accelerated format, such as Negotiation and Effective Teaming. In this format, students will complete most of the two-credit course in person over three days at Carey Business School. Students are required to complete pre-work and attend one to two virtual synchronous sessions prior to the in-person component. Most accelerated courses also require students to complete post-visit work.
The total amount of work is commensurate with any two-credit course at Carey. These courses allow online students a chance to truly experience the Carey Business School community and network with faculty, staff, and other students.
This course provides students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to negotiate. Designed around a series of research-based negotiation exercises, the course exposes students to various negotiation situations to help them understand two fundamental approaches to negotiation. By reflecting on these exercises considering negotiation theory, students develop an awareness of their personal negotiation style, including its strengths and weaknesses.
By the end of the course, students will be able to negotiate in an effective, ethical, and culturally appropriate manner.
In today’s businesses, teams are a basic organizational building block. Teaming is continually listed as one of the top skills that recruiters look for in graduating MBAs. This course conveys knowledge and practical tools that will help students become more productive team members and leaders.
Topics include the characteristics of high performing teams, leadership strategies for creating performing teams, strategies for avoiding dysfunctional team dynamics, and best practices for managing diverse and virtual teams.
