Baltimore Corps invests in employment pipelines into city government and private mission-driven organizations specializing in cultivating and developing emerging leaders of color. To date, Baltimore Corps has focused its efforts on recruiting and placing leaders in full-time roles across the city. In 2018, we created a partnership establishing the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Humanity Fellowship Program. The Humanity Fellowship provides graduates with a paid MBA level work experience that will contribute to the greater good of the Baltimore economic growth with a nonprofit, social impact, or public service organization. The Fellowship represents an opportunity to deepen Baltimore Corps’ pipeline by cultivating emerging leaders and to deploy MBA graduates throughout Baltimore.
City Springs Elementary
The Carey Business School partnership with City Springs Elementary School, a nearby elementary and middle school located just blocks from the Harbor East campus, began in 2017. Since then, Carey staff and faculty have raised funds and donated their time for activities including tutoring, organizing supply rooms, and removing fences and shrubbery, and more. Carey students have also been involved as consultants for the school and as the speech team coach.
Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program in Partnership with YouthWorks
The Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program is sponsored by Johns Hopkins Health System and Johns Hopkins University. The program provides Baltimore City students the opportunity to complete an eight-week long paid internship in one of various departments throughout the institution. Carey has hired two students each year over the past several years within the Carey Operations department and last year provided honoraria for the two students to help them get started in college with buying textbooks.
Each year, Carey Business School and Johns Hopkins University support nonprofits and charities serving the local community by contributing to the United Way of Central Maryland.
Carey Business School partners with alumni in many ways, including leveraging alumni as student mentors.
