STEM-designated programs
Strategize your future with STEM-designated degrees
Our STEM-designated degrees are one of the forward-thinking ways we design programs to give you an edge.
Not all master’s degrees are created equal. You need a degree that prepares you for tomorrow’s global marketplace, built by faculty who research for the future. Johns Hopkins Carey Business School programs are developed with data, so they never get stale. They’re designed to respond to the changing business landscape. They emphasize the quantitative skills that will set you apart, with a cross-disciplinary approach to business through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
-
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM degrees are purposefully built with an emphasis on the quantitative skills that set you apart from other job applicants.
-
Domestic students may find a STEM program beneficial as it prepares them for leadership in fields that benefit from advanced knowledge in data analysis and complex problem-solving.
Employers may find job applicants with STEM degrees more valuable than someone who did not study in a STEM-designated program, as STEM knowledge is valuable in advancing their organizations.
STEM degrees are also beneficial if you are seeking employment overseas or in international organizations because STEM is prized in an international context.
STEM degrees are particularly beneficial for international students, as they can apply to spend up to 36 months employed by an American company as part of the Optional Practical Training (OPT), as opposed to the 12 months for non-STEM students.
Optional Practical Training is defined as 'temporary employment for practical training directly related to the student's major area of study.' An F-1 student who has maintained lawful F-1 visa status for at least one academic year may be eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT may be granted before or after completion of their program, however limitations apply.
