At the same time, the benefits of technology are accompanied by profound challenges, such as misinformation, digital addiction, discrimination, new social pressures, and hidden fees. The Technology and Society Initiative at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School is dedicated to working toward a tech sector that fosters a positive social impact, improving people’s day-to-day lives while anticipating and mitigating the risks and harms of technology.

We strive to understand how business decisions, policy frameworks, and consumer behaviors interact to shape the impact of technology on our lives. Drawing on these frameworks, we aim to provide insights and solutions that promote a vibrant, ethical, and inclusive tech ecosystem. Our Washington, D.C. location offers an exciting environment in which to engage business and policy leaders with research and dialogue.

Case Competitions

Participate in a business case competition to develop critical business and presentation skills, gain industry experience, and network with experts and potential employers.

Commercialization Academy

An incubator for innovation at Johns Hopkins, the Commercialization Academy connects you with faculty, staff, and students across the university to bring over 300 new ideas to fruition and technologies to market each year. 

Hexcite

At the Hexcite early-stage medical software accelerator, match with Johns Hopkins care providers who have an idea to create and market a software solution that improves patient care. Join a team of graduate students from across Johns Hopkins to engage with the new health technology software from every angle and bring the care provider's innovation to market.

MIINT Impact Investing Program

Join the six-month experiential lab that simulates the early stages of impact investing. Participate in one-on-one advisory sessions and gain experience evaluating real-world investment opportunities.

Nonprofit Boards

Partner with Business Volunteers of Maryland to match with a nonprofit looking for new board members. Through board service, develop leadership skills, build a network within your industry, and make a significant impact at a nonprofit.

Student Impact Teams

Student Impact Teams collaborate with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to create large-scale co-curricular events and initiatives. Participating on a team offers students the opportunity to lead from concept to execution. The application for selection launches early Fall.

Ideal for those interested in consulting, investment strategy, or launching a venture, the program builds practical skills aligned with real career goals.
