GMAT/GRE Test Waiver Policies

2022-2023 GMAT/GRE Test Waiver Policies

At Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, the GMAT or GRE are just one of many factors that we weigh when reviewing your application. You should evaluate your own skillsets, strengths, and shortcomings and decide whether testing or the waiver makes your application as strong as it can be. If you would like to be considered for a test waiver, please review the information below to see if you meet the minimum criteria. Waiver requests are part of the full-time MBA application.  When deciding whether to offer a test waiver, we will look closely at your academic and professional accomplishments, including but not limited to:

  • Your undergraduate and/or graduate record, especially in analytical or quantitative courses.
  • The progression of your career, nature of your work experience, professional certifications, and post-MBA career goals. If applicable, performance on graduate-level standardized testing other than the GMAT or GRE, such as the MCAT or LSAT.

Please reach out to the Office of Admissions at carey.admissions@jhu.edu or 410-234-9220 with any questions.

Full-time MBA program

We are offering GMAT/GRE waivers to qualified applicants to the full-time MBA program for fall 2023. Minimum eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • three or more years of full-time, post-graduate work experience at the time of program start (by August 2023)

AND

  • a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in undergraduate coursework OR an advanced degree or professional degree (i.e., earned master’s or doctorate)

Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee a waiver and receiving a waiver does not guarantee admission. There is no separate application required for GMAT/GRE waiver. All full-time MBA applicants will see questions asking if they are requesting a waiver and confirming their qualifications in the test score section of the application. If you earned your bachelor’s degree outside the United States, your 3.0 GPA must be confirmed by a course-by-course evaluation from an approved credential evaluation agency before your waiver will be granted.

If you are not eligible for a waiver or otherwise wish to submit a score, we are accepting the GMAT Online and GRE at Home in addition to the traditional versions of both exams for fall 2023.

Full-time Master of Science programs

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is test-optional for United States citizens and permanent residents applying to full-time Master of Science programs for fall 2023. Test-optional means it is your choice as an applicant whether to submit a GMAT/GRE score with your application or not. If you have been able to test and believe a test score will add value to your application, you should submit one. If you have not been able to test or believe your test score does not reflect your ability and potential for graduate study, please do not include a score.

If you wish to submit a score, we are accepting the GMAT Online and GRE at Home in addition to the traditional versions of both exams for fall 2023.

The test section of the application will ask you to indicate if you are applying with or without a test score.

Part-time programs

Test score requirements are waived for all applicants to part-time programs moving forward. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Office of Admissions at carey.admissions@jhu.edu or 410-234-9220 with any questions.
