ALTERNATIVE WORK ARRANGEMENTS

The Johns Hopkins University Office of Work, Life, and Engagement maintains a guide on Flexible (Alternative) Work Arrangements.  The Carey Business School will follow this guide.

Our policy is to provide our employees opportunity to balance work/life while meeting the business needs of the school and university.  Please keep in mind that alternative work arrangements are a privilege and not a right, may not be appropriate for all positions, and is up to the discretion of the supervisor whether or not to grant the request.

Should you be considering an alternative work arrangement, please contact Craig Medlyn at cmedlyn@jhu.edu for assistance.

To request a flexible (alternative) work arrangement:

  • Review the guidelines found on the JHU Office of Work, Life, and Engagement website.
  • The staff member submits an email to the supervisor detailing the alternative work arrangement requested.
  • The supervisor consults with the Human Resources Office.
  • The supervisor either approves or denies the request.
  • If approved, a written agreement  is signed by the staff member and supervisor.
  • Supervisor gives a copy of signed agreement to the Human Resources office.
