Built for JD students at the Francis King Carey School of Law, the JD/MBA dual degree offered in partnership between Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law builds graduates who are prepared to lead in complex regulatory and business environments. Students interested in the JD/MBA must first apply and be accepted to the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. After acceptance, they may apply to the MBA program at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Current Maryland Carey Law students can apply to Carey’s MBA program during their first year and begin business courses in their second year. This program is available in both full-time and part-time modalities, providing the flexibility to balance your professional, educational, and personal goals while earning two powerful degrees.

The JD/MBA curriculum was designed for students who want to pursue a leadership position in their legal careers. The JD/MBA curriculum blends a rigorous legal education with strategic business training to develop confident, cross-functional leaders who can navigate today’s regulatory, financial, and operational challenges.

The full-time JD/MBA curriculum is designed so students can complete two degrees in less time. The full-time option allows you to immerse yourself fully in both programs, accelerating your path to completing your degree while gaining a comprehensive expertise in law and business.
The Johns Hopkins MBA program is 54 credits, 18 of which may be applied from the JD program. The JD program is 85 credits, 9 of which may be applied from the MBA. A JD/MBA student is required to complete a total of 118 credits.
For the MBA program, students will take a total of 36 credits, which includes 22 required business foundation courses, a 2-credit MBA experiential course, and 12 credits of elective courses:
