Full-Time MBA Orientation

Foundations Week

Foundations Week at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is more than orientation.

During Foundations Week, an immersive week-long experience, you will gain the tools to confidently begin your two-year journey as an MBA student with a vision for the road ahead. Foundations Week introduces you to every aspect of your full-time MBA program, from networking with colleagues to exploring the experiential learning curriculum.

Curriculum, community, career

The theme for Foundations Week 2022 is Curriculum, Community, and Career. Sessions throughout the week will focus on the connective threads between the full-time MBA curriculum, your new community of MBA students, staff, and faculty, and the holistic full-time MBA journey that prepares you for your career.

Schedule of Events

Friday, August 19, 2022: Welcome to Carey Reception and Kickoff

Kick off your MBA program by meeting the key players during a welcome session before a reception with words from the Carey Business School Dean Alex Triantis and select full-time MBA staff and faculty.

Tuesday, August 23, 2022: Behavioral Science Boot Camp

Time to get to work and get a preview of the importance of behavioral science to your FTMBA curriculum. Facilitated by Brian Gunia and Colleen Stuart, two of our valued FTMBA faculty members, this all-day session will focus on the operational behaviors of successful teams.

Wednesday, August 24, 2022:  Center for Innovative Leadership Day – Carey MBA Community Kitchen

The teaming day is an essential piece of the full-time MBA’s orientation process. Facilitated by the Center for Innovative Leadership’s faculty and staff, this full-day team leadership experience is designed to equip you with the critical skills necessary to be successful in diverse, high performing teams throughout your MBA experience, in your community and beyond.

Taking place at RHouse, Baltimore’s premiere food hall and community gathering space, you will work in teams to complete a series of complex challenges that will culminate in prepared meals and resources for local community groups who feed and support our neighbors in need. This challenge will require clear communication, empathy for others, innovative solutions, and agility in the face of adversity. This is a fast-paced day with opportunities to be creative, have fun with new classmates and make an impact in your new home city of Baltimore. The day will end with a celebration of your work and impact while mingling and networking with local Carey MBA alumni, business and community leaders.

Thursday, August 25, 2022:  Office of Experiential Learning Day

Experiential Learning Day is an opportunity for you to explore the myriad experiential learning opportunities at Carey. You will come away from this session with an understanding of how experiential learning operates as an integral element of the full-time MBA curriculum and how experiential learning opportunities will prepare you for your career.

Friday, August 26, 2022:  Career Development Day & Conclusion

Career Development Day is a key component of Foundations Week. By this point in the onboarding process, you will have already corresponded with most of your MBA colleagues and met with their career coach. The Career Development Day is an opportunity to expand your Carey network, identify professional development and career goals, and engage more fully with the entire Career Development team.
