Simon Evenett, a professor of international trade and economic development at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, will teach a course on global strategy during the second half of the spring term at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

During the “spring 2” period, which runs from late March through mid-May, Evenett will hold the title of DLA Piper Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Carey Business School.

The global strategy course will examine the methods that managers use to engage effectively with foreign businesses and governments. Through case studies and other examples, it will provide frameworks for analysis and for the translation of insights into managerial actions.

At St. Gallen, in addition to serving as a professor, Evenett is the academic director of the MBA program and heads the Global Trade Alert initiative, the leading independent monitor of protectionism and commercial policy. Findings from the Global Trade Alert have been cited in major newspapers worldwide, in the speeches of CEOs and leading political leaders, as well as in the reports of international organizations. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University and a B.A. in economics from the University of Cambridge.

Evenett has taught at the University of Oxford, the University of Michigan, and Rutgers University, and has served as a World Bank official. He has also been a Nonresident Senior Fellow in the economics studies program of the Brookings Institution.
