Steven A. Wechsler serves as president and chief executive officer of NAREIT (National Association of Real Estate Investment Trust). Wechsler has served as president and chief executive officer of the National Realty Committee since 1990.

Wechsler first joined National Realty Committee in 1983 as general counsel. Previously, he practiced law with Stein, Miller and Brodsky, a Washington, D.C. law firm specializing in real estate matters. Earlier, he was counsel to the government relations consulting firm of Thevenot, Murray and Scheer.

Wechsler is a graduate of Boston University and Cleveland State University College of Law, and holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the Ohio and District of Columbia Bar Associations. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, and serves on the advisory board of "Housing and Development Reporter" and the Housing Roundtable.
