Experiential Learning: Innovation Field Project

The Innovation Field Project at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is the Full-time MBA and Accelerated MBA program’s signature experiential learning project, providing students with real industry experience. Student consultants are paired with a corporate sponsor to identify challenges and offer innovative solutions to solve the business’ complex problems.

Use data to solve complex business challenges in your MBA innovation project

Put your MBA learning into action by evaluating complex business challenges through rigorous data analytics and creative problem-solving. You’ll develop innovative, data-driven, and actionable recommendations while strengthening essential career-building skills such as goal setting, conflict management, and building high-functioning teams.

Working alongside a faculty advisor, your team will tackle the complex business challenge and travel within the United States for three to five days to meet directly with your project sponsors and stakeholders.

Project topics

Students work on projects across industries such as technology, retail, banking, or manufacturing. Business challenges may focus on products, services, operations, strategy development, or broader organizational issues, such as an ethical dilemma leaders face today.

Over this eight-week intensive course, you will:

  • Weeks 1 – 2: Meet your project sponsor, learn your business challenge, gather data, and prepare for the on-site visit
  • Week 3: Visit the organization, refine the project scope, engage stakeholders, and finalize the project work plan
