Big Data Consulting Project

Big data comes in high volume, velocity, and variety. But it’s not the amount or type of data that transforms businesses, it’s what businesses do with the data that drives the bottom line.

In the Full-time MBA program’s Big Data Consulting Project, a business partner will pose a business challenge and a large dataset for analysis. Students work in teams to analyze the data and communicate their findings to strengthen managerial insights.

Applying analytic techniques

To address the client’s challenge, student teams move through three stages: describing data patterns and trends, developing compelling presentations to communicate their insights, and responding to inquiries from the project sponsor.

Students apply a range of tools including Tableau or Hadoop for data visualization, R or Python for programming and analysis, and spreadsheet simulation and optimization tools such as @Risk and Excel Solver.

Presenting the findings

Each team delivers two presentations to the business partner: one at the project’s midpoint and another at completion. The midpoint presentation is to receive early feedback and make any necessary adjustments. At the final presentation, each team of students will present their completed findings.
