The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the global standard-setting body for business education, recently held its Global Impact Awards, recognizing excellence in leadership, teaching, research, societal impact, and volunteer service. Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is proud to have received two awards – Dean Alex Triantis for Excellence in Service, and Assistant Professor of Practice Javad Abed’s HealthGuard VR simulator for Cybersecurity Training with AI and VR.

Over three years of board service, Triantis played a critical role in sustaining organizational momentum and positioning AACSB for long-term relevance and global influence. During his tenure as board chair (2023–24), Triantis helped AACSB maintain stability and continuity amid leadership transition, ensuring the association continued to advance its mission to elevate the quality and societal impact of business education worldwide without disruption. He consistently aligned the board around shared priorities, fostering cohesion, constructive dialogue, and a unified perspective on AACSB’s strategic direction. This clarity of purpose strengthened the organization’s ability to act decisively at a pivotal moment.
Triantis reinforced AACSB’s role as a global voice for business schools committed not only to academic excellence but also to meaningful societal contributions. He emphasized the responsibility of business education to address complex global challenges such as economic inequality, sustainability, ethical leadership, and workforce transformation. Through his leadership, AACSB continued to advance the expectation that societal impact should be central to business education, helping shift the conversation from compliance to purpose and from activity to measurable outcomes. His perspective encouraged business school leaders to think more intentionally about how education, research, and engagement contribute to the public good.

Cybersecurity Training with AI and VR

In 2024, Carey Business School, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University’s Whiting School of Engineering and its Information Security Institute, received a $75,000 DELTA Grant from the Provost’s Office to develop and implement HealthGuard, a pioneering initiative to revolutionize cybersecurity education through AI-driven experiential learning.
Inspired by real-world data breaches and ransomware attacks in healthcare, the platform enables students to step into a simulated hospital environment and experience authentic, pressure-driven cybersecurity scenarios. Using artificial intelligence, each simulation evolves dynamically, based on user responses, allowing participants to analyze threats, allocate resources, and make ethical decisions that balance patient care and data security.
The project is deeply aligned with Carey’s mission to teach business with humanity in mind and AACSB’s emphasis on impactful innovation in business education. By embedding HealthGuard across graduate programs, such as Cybersecurity Risk Management, Managing Cybersecurity in the Age of AI, and Digital Transformation of Business, the initiative demonstrates how business education can prepare future leaders to confront technological, ethical, and operational challenges through active, applied learning.
