Matching gifts FAQ

A matching gift occurs when a company matches donations made by its employees, retirees, or sometimes part-time staff. It’s a benefit designed to support employees’ charitable giving.

Which donations are eligible for matching?

Most companies match cash donations, and some will match volunteer hours, stock transfers, or other securities. Each company sets its own rules about minimum and maximum match amounts, retiree eligibility, and exclusions such as athletics. Carey can only approve the tax-deductible portion of your gift and will comply with your employer’s matching guidelines.

Which donations are not eligible?

Eligibility varies by company, but generally only the tax-deductible portion of a donation qualifies. We are happy to research your company’s policy if you’re unsure.

How do I request a match?

Forms are usually available on your company’s intranet or through HR. Some are available online. And many companies use paperless platforms. Ask your HR department for the URL. Carey is listed as “Johns Hopkins Carey Business School,” EIN 52-0595110.

After submitting, please send confirmation to [email protected] so we can verify with your employer.
