Transforming Breast Cancer Care through Precision Diagnostics and Innovative Medicine

The case presents a comprehensive approach for AstraZeneca to improve breast cancer care and outcomes with next generation diagnostics and drug therapies.
We recommend that students build interdisciplinary teams to include all critical business skillsets and a variety of backgrounds and experience to address this unique and challenging case.
Key dates
- Friday, Oct. 17: application deadline
- Monday, Oct. 27: notifications to 10 selected teams via email
- Wednesday, Oct. 29: registration is due; registered teams will receive case packet
- Thursday, Nov. 20: final team slide decks due by noon
- Friday, Nov. 21: Welcome and networking reception
- Saturday, Nov. 22: Case competition
What to expect
- The competition will include a first round of presentations in the morning, followed by final presentations for five selected teams in the afternoon.
- The event will close with an awards ceremony and networking reception.
- Awards will be given to the top three teams in the amounts of $8,000, $5,500, and $3,000, respectively, at the closing Awards and Networking Reception.
Competition rules and regulations
- This competition is for graduate students only. Teams are permitted to include MD and/or PhD students.
- Teams must include between three and five students; at least one must be an MBA student.
- All team members must be from the same university.
- Finalist teams are required to present in person at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School at 100 International Drive, Baltimore, MD, 21202
- Upon notification of your invitation to be a finalist, your team must register to accept the invitation. This includes a fee of $100, paid by credit card. Your team will receive the case packet via email after you register.
- Final presentation slide decks must be submitted by Thursday, November 20, at noon ET. You may not make any changes after this submission.
- To prevent bias, judges will not know the teams' universities. Do not identify your team's university in slide decks, clothing, accessories, or interactions with judges.
- Teams may have advisors, who may attend the competition, but are not permitted to offer advice on the day of the competition.
