STANDARD SYLLABI

The Carey Business School uses syllabus templates to ensure that school policies, course information, and accreditation processes are clearly and consistently communicated. There is a school-wide template as well as course-specific templates, both of which are updated on a regular basis with support from Teaching & Learning@Carey.

Faculty can use this page to access syllabi for on-site courses and to review instructions for preparing their syllabus. For general questions about syllabi or the syllabus review process, please contact Teaching & Learning.

Note: This page is intended as a resource for faculty. Students should refer to the Blackboard course site for their syllabus and textbook information.

Carey Syllabus Template

Carey's school-wide templates establish the boilerplate content and structure for all syllabi at Carey:

Standard Syllabi

Carey also has course-specific templates known as standard syllabi. These syllabi establish course-specific information such as textbooks, learning objectives, and assignments. Changes to the standard syllabi should be communicated to Teaching & Learning by the Course Lead.

Note: There are separate syllabi for on-site and online courses.

  • Teaching on-site? Standard syllabi for on-site courses are available for download in the table that follows. If no syllabus is available for your course, please contact the Course Lead. Some syllabi may be in the process of being updated.
  • Teaching online? Faculty teaching online courses will work closely with instructional designers who can assist in directing faculty to the latest syllabus.

Preparing YOUR SECTION-SPECIFIC SYLLABUS

Follow these steps before sharing your syllabus with students via Blackboard:

  1. Enter your section-specific information (name, contact information, class meeting dates/times, etc.) into the standard syllabus for your course.
  2. If you are teaching a new course that is being offered for the first time — whether on-site or online — please send your syllabus to Teaching & Learning for review at least 3-4 weeks before your class begins. You will receive an email when the syllabus is approved.
  3. Otherwise, please send a copy of your syllabus to the Office of Faculty & Research (OFR) for their records.
  4. Post the syllabus to Blackboard and activate your Blackboard site at least 2 weeks before class (if you're teaching on-site) or at least 1 week before class (if you're teaching online).
