Meet MS in Marketing Alum JY Tian
JY Tian was looking for two things when he was applying to business schools in the United States: reputation and rigor. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the United Kingdom in 2014, the Chinese national settled on a short list of schools that included Cornell, Columbia, and the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
When it came time to make a decision, Tian said Carey’s Master of Science in Marketing program was the clear choice for him.
Two years, one job offer, and one promotion later, it’s a decision he says he doesn’t regret.

Academic PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Ning Li, PhD (Duke University), is an Assistant Professor on the Practice Track at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Her research interests include business-to-business marketing strategy, alliances, global marketing strategy, and marketing ethics.
Prior to his work at Carey Business School, Jeff served as a Student Support Specialist at Hagerstown Community College in western Maryland. In this role, he advised nursing and pre-nursing students, assisted with the nursing admissions processes, managed the credit transfer process, served on various campus-wide committees, and worked closely with nursing faculty to maximize student retention. Jeff served in previous positions at Hagerstown Community College, including career development with undecided students and general academic advising, in which he worked with students pursuing accounting & business degrees. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Education from Northwestern University and two Masters degrees in counseling from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
Jeff is an active member of NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising. He also has over 15 years of experience helping students in various educational and developmental capacities. In his free time, Jeff enjoys singing with various community choirs, playing bocce, and being a huge soccer fan.
