Program Features

Formal speaking opportunities give you the power to influence and inform others while boosting your credibility and status as a thought-leader. If you see yourself in the spotlight, this course will equip you with skills to write a speech and deliver it with confidence.

Coupled with public speaking theory, course participants will receive one-on-one speech writing coaching from industry experts. By course end, participants will have the opportunity to deliver a TED-style talk in front of a virtual audience. Giving and receiving speech feedback will also be practiced.

This course welcomes all levels of public speakers, from entry to experienced. Individuals will leave this course having participated in a unique learning experience and be equipped with a visionary structure for future speaking successes.

Alexa S. Chilcutt, PhD

Alexa S. Chilcutt, PhD is an award-winning faculty member of the College of Communication and Information Sciences and director of the Public Speaking Program at the University of Alabama. Chilcutt is an expert in public speaking, impression management, and leadership. Her research on organizational impression management and leadership communication has been published in Public Relations Journal, Journal of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Impact magazine, and MedEdPORTAL. Chilcutt is the author of the book "Engineered to Speak: Helping You Create and Deliver Engaging Technical Presentations" published by Wiley IEEE Press' Professional Series.
