JHU Express Engine Tutorial Site

Site Basics:

Here are a few walk-throughs for some of the basic operations of the CMS and implementing new content, uploadiing files, and deleting any content.

Also the check out the other pages in navigation, which inlcudes informationa insight on image specifications before uploading, and also the downloadable PDF version at the foot of the page.

How To Sign-In Express Engine:

    Go to the Login Page Enter Your User ID and Password, then click Login.


    You Will Arrive at this page, from here you can navigate through the user interface:


    Or you may arrive here, if your CMS has been setup by Web Admin:

     

How upload an image:
  •  

    Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to files, and then to file manager, and click the tab:


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover over to "Upload File":


    Afterwards, this component will appear, you can specify which directory you wish to upload the image to.


    Afterwards, click the "Choose File" button, and find the file you want to upload and select it.


    Afterwards, click the "Upload File" button.


    Once uploaded is successful, you can close the pop-up component by clicking the (X) icon in the right corner of that box.


    After closing the pop-up component, you will see you newly uploaded file at the top of the repository list, highlighted in yellow.

     

How upload a document (word, pdf, excel, .ppt etc.)

    Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to files, and then to file manager, and click the tab:


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover over to "Upload File":


    Afterwards, this component will appear, you can specify which directory you wish to upload the image to.


    Afterwards, click the "Choose File" button, and find the file you want to upload and select it.


    Afterwards, click the "Upload File" button.


    Once uploaded is successful, you can close the pop-up component by clicking the (X) icon in the right corner of that box.


    After closing the pop-up component, you will see you newly uploaded file at the top of the repository list, highlighted in yellow.

     

How to delete an image/document:

    Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to files, and then to file manager, and click the tab:


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover over to the "Delete" section and trash icon, and click it:


    Afterwards, you will arrive at this screen, it will prompt to make sure you want to delete, click the "Delete" button.


    Afterwards, you will come back to the "File Manager" page. YOU WILL NOT GET A CONFIRMATION THAT THE FILE WAS DELETED.

     

How to add SEO Title and SEO Meta Description:

    Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to select a "Title" listed:


    You will arrive at the backend of page, hover over to the "SEO Lite" tab and click it:


    You will arrive at this page and see fields for "SEO Title" and "SEO Meta Description". Fill the first one with a title, and the second one with verbaige that describes the cotent of the page. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ANY "SEO META KEYWORDS", WE DO NOT NEED THEM. Lastly hit the "Submit" button to the far right.


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How to Edit a page:
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to select a "Title" listed:


    You will arrive at the backend of page, once you have made all of you desired changes, click the "Publish" button to the far right:


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How to Publish a page:
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to select a "Title" listed:

How to Archive a page:
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to select a "Title" listed:


    You will arrive at the backend of page, once you have made all of you desired changes, click the "Archive" button to the far right:


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How to Save and Preview a page:
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to select a "Title" listed:


    You will arrive at the backend of page, once you have made all of you desired changes, click the "Archive" button to the far right:


    Afterwards, you will see a window pop-up with a preview of what the page will look like in production, (some rendering may not occur for some programming, due to nature of CMS setup). Make sure to click the close (X) in the right hand corner to close preview pop-up box.


    Once the pop-up window closes you will see this page again, click the "Save and Close Button" in the right top corner.


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How to Delete a page (Make sure you have approval from Web Admin):
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to click the check box, to select the page you want to delete:


    Once you have your page selected, scroll down to the bottom of the page and to the far right corner you will see a drop down box that has "Delete Selected", select that option and click the submit button:


    Afterwards, you will arrive at this page. Select "Delete" the page permently.


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How to add Categories to a page:
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to click the check box, to select the page you want to change the URL path to:


    Once you have your page selected, hover over to the "Categories" tab and click it:


    Afterwards, you will arrive at this page. You will have multiple different categories to pick from, check the boxes you see best fit, then once completed, click "Publish":


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How to load a previous version of a page:
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to click the check box, to select the page you want to change the URL path to:


    Once you have your page selected, hover over to the "Revisions" tab and click it:


    Afterwards, you will arrive at this page. You will have a list of versions of the page based on the date that each one was published. Select the one you want to go back to:


    Afterwards, you will return back to the "Publish" tab, but you are now in the version of the page you loaded. You can double check by clicking the "Revisions" tab. Once your satisfied click "Publish" to make the page live.

     

How To Add an ALT tag to an Image
  • Navigate to the content tab, click the tab and hover down to "Edit" and click only "Edit":


    You will arrive at this page. From here hover downward to select the page you want to add an image to:



    Once you have your page selected, scroll down to the "Body" editing arean right click the image you want to add an "alt" text to. Then a list will appear and you will see "Image Properties" left click that button:


    Afterwards, you will see a window appear with mulitple fields, hover over to the "Alternative Text" filed, and add text (describing the image, or the name of the person in the image:


    Afterwards, scroll down to the bottom right of the page and click "Publish" to make the page live (Move-to-Production).


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How To Create A Event Landing Page
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:


    You wil arrive at this page with the (3) boxes labeled "Create", "Modify", "View". Hover over to the create box and click entry. The list will drop down, and display the different selection options. Select "Event New Landing Page":



    You will arrive at this page and you can begin popuating the fields with a Page Title, Hero Callout, etc. Once you are satisfied with the page and the content you've place on it, hover over to the "SEO Lite" tab and click it:


    Afterwards, you will see this page, and you can fill in the fields of this page "SEO Title" and "SEO Meta Description", but NOT "Meta Keywords". Then click the "Submit" button, to publish the page to production:


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine).

     

How To Create A Event Landing Page
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:


    You wil arrive at this page with the (3) boxes labeled "Create", "Modify", "View". Hover over to the create box and click entry. The list will drop down, and display the different selection options. Select "Event New Landing Page":


    You will arrive at this page and you can begin popuating the fields with a Page Title, Hero Callout, etc. Once you are satisfied with the page and the content you've place on it, hover over to the "SEO Lite" tab and click it:



    Afterwards, you will see this page, and you can fill in the fields of this page "SEO Title" and "SEO Meta Description", but NOT "Meta Keywords". Then click the "Submit" button, to publish the page to production:

How to Add An Header Hero Image to a page
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:


    You wil arrive at this page with the (3) boxes labeled "Create", "Modify", "View". Hover over to the create box and click entry. The list will drop down, and display the different selection options. Select "Event New Landing Page":


    In the edit page you will see a section labeled "Event Hero Images". There will be a (+) Icon, in the left corner of that section. Click the icon:



    This will cause a "Add File" text and (+) button to pop-up in the center of the "Event Hero Images" section. Also a row will appear, and this will be your first header image, as you are able to add mutiple as you click the (+) from the last step:


    This window will appear after you click the "Add File" button in the center of the "Event Hero Images" section. Then you are able to add an image from using the "Upload" button and uploading an image, or you can select a file from the list of files already uploaded into the system. Select a file or Upload Your File:


    (Only If You Uploaded An Image) This window will appear, then click the "Choose File" button:


    After that you will a thumbnail of your image in the center of the "Event Landing Images" section, you have now placed your image into the page:


    Once your satisfied with the image(s) you chose, you can scroll down the paeg and click "Publish" or if its an Event Landing Page, click "Submit":


    Afterwards, you will return back to the main page (structure), or (you may end up back at the homepage if you do not have structure added to your navigation within Express Engine):

     

How To Add A Staff Member Page
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:


    You wil arrive at this page with the (3) boxes labeled "Create", "Modify", "View". Hover over to the create box and click entry. The list will drop down, and display the different selection options. Select "Staff Member":


    Begin filling in the fields, "Title", "Event Hero Images", etc. After you are done, click the "SEO Lite" tab:



    Fill in the "SEO Title" "SEO META DESCRIPTION". Do Not Add Any "SEO META KEYWORDS", then click the "Publish" tab to return to the main edit page :



    One you have filled in all the fields above, click the "Add Image" button to add the Staff Members Image:


    This window will appear, and you can click one of the images in the list or upload a new image:


    If you choose from the list of images, that window will close and look like this, and if your satisfied then click "Publish" and you will return to the main page or structure page:


    Which would be here:


    If you want to upload an Image you want to use the proceed with the following, click the "Add Image" Button:


    This window will appear similar to the one like las time, and click the "Upload" button:


    This window will appear for you to upload the file from your computer, do so by clicking the "Choose File" button, once you have done so click the "Upload File" button:


    This window will appear showing you what file you have uploaded you can click the button "Use Uploaded File" to use the file:


    The image will appear in the "Image" section, and then you can proceed to clicking the "Publish" button after you are satfisfied:


    You will return to this page and your process is complete you can check to see if you page is in production on the Carey website and search throuhg the staff directory:

     

How To Add An Image To A Page (Got To "Before You Upload An Image") first!
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:



    Hover over to "Create" and click "Entry":



    The list will drop down and you will see "Staff Member" click it (You Can Also do the same process for any particular template that allows an Image, Hero image, etc):


    You will arrive at this page and it will have an area labeled, "Image" hover below it and click "Add File":


    This window will appear for you to uploade your image, do so by clicking "Upload File" in the top right corner of the window, and another window will appear to pick the file from your computer, select the image:


    Afterwards, you will arrive here, your image will have a small preview, and you can either "Edit Image" or "Use Uploaded File" :


    Afterwards, you will arrive back to the "Publish" tab/page and you will see a small (thumbnail) version of your image as a preview in the "Image" section. Click "Publish" if you are satified with the selection you made:

How To Remove A Newly Added Page From The Main Navigation
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:


    Hover over to "Create" and click "Entry":


    The list will drop down and you will see "Event Landing New Design" click it:


    Hover over to the "Structure" tab, and click it:


    Once your on the "Structure" tab page, hover downward to where it says "Hide from nav" and click the drop down to switch from "No" to "Yes":


    Afterwards you page should look like this, with the drop down box selecting on "Yes", once you've done this you can hover over to the "Submit" button and click it:

How to Create a Redirect
  • Hover over to the home icon in the far left corner of the homepage or (Structure) page:


    Hover over to "Create" and click "Entry":


    The list will drop down and you will see "Redirect" click it:


    Once you've arrived at the editing page of the Redirect, insert the your information in the following fields highlighted, once complete you can click submit:
