Mervyn has been employed at Johns Hopkins University for approximately 21 years and has been in administration and advising for the past 17. He is passionate about students and goes the extra mile to assist them in their education pursuits at Carey. While Mervyn does not have a personal philosophy that he operates under, he firmly believes that he was destined to work in a capacity that allowed him to help others and as a result, he continues to strive for perfection in his level and quality of service to his students.
In his spare time Mervyn likes to read, watch television and spend time with his family; he hopes to get more consistent with his exercise routine.
Prior to his work at Carey Business School, Jeff served as a Student Support Specialist at Hagerstown Community College in western Maryland. In this role, he advised nursing and pre-nursing students, assisted with the nursing admissions processes, managed the credit transfer process, served on various campus-wide committees, and worked closely with nursing faculty to maximize student retention. Jeff served in previous positions at Hagerstown Community College, including career development with undecided students and general academic advising, in which he worked with students pursuing accounting & business degrees. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Education from Northwestern University and two Masters degrees in counseling from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
Jeff is an active member of NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising. He also has over 15 years of experience helping students in various educational and developmental capacities. In his free time, Jeff enjoys singing with various community choirs, playing bocce, and being a huge soccer fan.
With over six years working in higher education and three years in the corporate world, Megan Jeffrey joins the Carey Business School’s Academic Advising team under the MS Finance Program. Fluent in Mandarin, Megan earned her BA in Chinese with a Certificate of East Asian Studies from the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) and her MA in International Education Policy from there as well. Megan is an avid world traveler, having been to countries in East and Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean, and in her spare time, enjoys learning Farsi and teaching dance fitness classes.
Most recently, John worked at CCBC-Catonsville in academic advising. Before returning to the area, he worked at the University of Texas—San Antonio (UTSA) where he was the Assistant Director of the First-Year Experience program. In this role he was responsible for the mentoring, coaching, and training of 110 Peer Mentors who, in turn, mentored and supported first-year students on the way to personal and academic success. John also advised multidisciplinary studies and education students at UTSA. John has been advising students for many years.
John completed post-graduate work in online learning in dance education. His work explored interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary learning, and how kinesthetic and somatic learning happens (or might happen) with online learners. He holds two master’s degrees: one is from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration with concentrations in policy analysis and community organizing, while the other is from American University in Washington, DC with concentrations in dance education, performance, and history. John’s undergraduate degree is from Luther College, Decorah, IA in Public Communication with a minor in dance studies.
John enjoys performing. He sings with the New Wave Singers of Baltimore and takes dance classes when time allows.
Yassi has been a member of the Academic Advising team in Carey Business School since July 2012. She has 10 years of experience in education management and advising international and domestic students in various degree programs and levels. Prior to her work in Carey, Yassi was an Academic Advisor at the Cultural Division of the Embassy of Kuwait where she oversaw various aspects of government scholarship programs including but not limited to providing academic advisement and counseling for Kuwaiti sponsored students attending universities in the Unites States and Canada. Yassi holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Law and Government from American University Washington College of Law and two Graduate Certificates in Immigration Law and Policy, and Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice. Yassi is a member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators and NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves reading books and listening to music.
Kaitlin Capobianco is an Academic Advisor at the Carey Business School’s DC campus. She joined Carey in January 2017. Prior to coming to Carey, Kaitlin worked as an M.A. Academic Advisor at American University’s School of International Service. She holds an M.A. in Art History from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and a M.Ed. from the Pennsylvania State University in College Student Affairs and Higher Education. While at Penn State, Kaitlin served as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Student Conduct and interned at McGill University in Montreal. Kaitlin enjoys supporting students’ academic and professional development by collaboratively building an educational plan that aligns with students’ academic and professional goals. In her free time, Kaitlin can be found at one of DC’s many music venues. She welcomes Spotify recommendations.
Prior to joining the Carey Business School, Jud worked for Bowie State University and has a Community College background from working at Chesapeake College. He was an academic & career advisor, TRIO program coordinator, adjunct English faculty, and transfer advisor to 4-year schools. Jud holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts, and a Master of Science in Psychology with concentrations in Educational and Sport psychology from Capella University.
Outside of the advising office, Jud enjoys spending time with family and friends, catching up on anime, and relaxing outside on the weekends.
