The time is always right to do what is right.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a point: once you know what the right thing to do is, the time to do it is always right. With a few exceptions, however, it can often be a challenge to find out what the right thing to do is; and it is a challenge to do it once you find what that is. Luckily for most of us, at work, no matter one’s profession, there are established ethical guidelines that encourage adherence to certain values. Not surprisingly, ethics is one of the nine core competencies essential for success in the global marketplace. If you aspire to be a socially responsible global business leader, ethical behavior is a must. And acting according to established values is not enough; it is also important to be accountable and take responsibility when you make a mistake.
