The Career Development Office empowers students to realize their full potential and secure meaningful careers that make an impact in the world.

Our approach

The Baltimore, Md., and Washington, D.C., based team includes career coaches and employer relations professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries. Resources and events offer opportunities for the following:

Our technology         

Handshake

Handshake is a Johns Hopkins University-wide career platform available to students, alumni, and employers. Handshake is the main portal for students to access all university-wide and Carey Business School career search offerings, including:

  • Job and internship postings
    • On-campus employment (teaching, research, graduate assistantships)
    • Off-campus employment (for- and nonprofit employment)
  • Workshops (examples: resumes, cover letters, professional branding, career switching)
  • Networking events (examples: industry days, coffee chats)
  • Career coaching appointments (1:1 and group options, virtual or in-person)
  • Employer events (on and off campus)

External resources

  • External resources paid by Johns Hopkins, available to all students:
    • Vmock is a resume refinement tool that offers instant and personalized resume feedback, performance scores based on benchmarks with peers, and sample content. Carey Business School students may upload their resumes up to 10 times for feedback. It is recommended that students achieve a score of 75 percent or higher before making an appointment with a career coach to review their resume.
    • Vocaprep (coming soon) offers interview preparation like it has never been done before. View tailored interactive cases, detailed worksheets and exercises, and more to prepare for interviews.
    • GoinGlobal. Search country career guides, the H1B database, and more.
    • Candid Career. View thousands of videos of informational interviews with industry professionals. The professionals interviewed offer an honest, in-depth look at what their jobs entail and what it takes to be successful.
    • Interview Stream. Helps prepare student for job interviews through soft skill development using advanced, mock interviewing technology.
    • Skillsoft. Offers 165,000+ e-learning courses, videos and books on topics ranging from leadership competencies to professional certification programs. 

Students

All students have access to Handshake, the Johns Hopkins-wide career database. Students can log onto Handshake at jhu.joinhandshake.com/login using their JHED ID and password after they are enrolled in classes.=

Employers

All employers can register for a free account in Handshake to post jobs and internships, view student profiles and resumes, and request opportunities to engage on campus.
