Mario Morken is currently Vice President of Business Development at Berkeley Lights, Inc. Prior to Berkeley Lights, Mario was part of the senior management team at Exosome Diagnostics, which was acquired by Bio-Techne on August 1, 2018, where he served as Director of Business Development. Having held previous commercial roles with Bio-Rad Laboratories and Thermo Fisher Scientific, Mario has 15 years of experience in molecular biology, genomics, product management, and business development. Mario has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Loyola University Maryland, and he earned his Master of Business Administration and Master’s in Biotechnology degrees from the Johns Hopkins University.
Mario began his career at the bench working as a research associate for a private biotech company before moving to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At NIH, he spent over six years as a researcher in the laboratory of NIH Director Francis S. Collins. Mario’s research focused on the genetics and epigenetics of type 2 diabetes, and he is a co-author on more than 30 peer-reviewed publications.
Mario is driven to make an impact on human health through advancing precision medicine, and by mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs in healthcare. He believes passionately that leaders in biomedicine should always put patients ahead of personal goals.
