
Dr. Phillip H. Phan arrived at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in 2008 as Professor and Vice Dean for Faculty and Research. In 2010, he was named Executive Vice Dean, and on July 1, 2011, he will begin serving as the school’s Interim Dean.
An expert in the areas of corporate governance, strategy, technological entrepreneurship, and regional economic development, Dr. Phan previously was the Warren H. Bruggeman ’46 and Pauline Urban Bruggeman Distinguished Professor of Management at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lally School of Management and Technology. While at the Lally School, he also was director of its MBA and master’s degree programs.
Dr. Phan earned a Ph.D. in strategic management at the University of Washington and has served as the Tommie Goh Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship and Business at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business at Singapore Management University, and as Robert Bosch Foundation Public Policy Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.
A prodigious researcher with more than 80 articles published in such leading national and international journals as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, and Journal of International Business Studies, Dr. Phan also has consulted for numerous organizations including the World Bank, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Ernst & Young, and Singapore Airlines. He is a regular expert contributor to The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, CNBC, and CNNOnline, and other media outlets around the world. In addition, Dr. Phan writes a blog, “Economic Meltdown,” on the effects of the recent global recession.
