
As former senior executive vice president of Legg Mason, Inc., Peter Bain led the firm’s efforts involving collaborative strategic initiatives and operating relationships with its investment management affiliates. Mr. Bain also directed the company’s corporate strategy, including merger and acquisition activity and other business expansion efforts.
Mr. Bain joined Legg Mason in June 2000 from Berkshire Capital Securities, LLC, a privately held investment banking firm. Previously, he was vice president in the Merger and Acquisitions Department at Merrill Lynch & Co. Mr. Bain started his business career as a strategic planning officer with HSBC Holdings, in connection with the award of a Henry Luce Foundation Scholarship in 1986. Before receiving the Luce Scholarship, Mr. Bain worked as an attorney with the New York City law firm of Baer Marks & Upham.
Mr. Bain received a bachelor of arts in American Studies from Trinity College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors in general scholarship. He received his JD from Harvard Law School.
Mr. Bain is president of the board of trustees of the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Charles Street Development Corporation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – Maryland Chapter, and The Center Club, also in Baltimore.
