The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School’s Writing Center aims to provide quality writing assistance to help students develop their own writing abilities and become skilled readers of their own writing. Writing Center tutors can help at any stage of the writing process, whether clarifying an initial focus, developing a thesis, structuring an argument, integrating sources, or revising a draft. Tutors do not offer intensive instruction in the rudiments of English, although tutors can help students learn to identify and correct patterns of error, or point them to available resources.
NOTE: Revised summer 2013 schedule for the Writing Center is as follows:
The Writing Center in Baltimore, Harbor East location, will be closed May 15 - August 25, 2013.
The Writing Center in Washington, D.C. will be closed May 15 - June 3, 2013. The Writing Center in Washington, DC will be open in the summer as follows:
Tuesdays and Thursdays
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Room 202

The Writing Center at both Harbor East and Washington, D.C. will reopen the second week of classes, Monday, August 26.

- Failure to become aware of these expectations and rules is not an excuse.
- As a reminder, back-to-back appointments are NOT allowed. The Writing Center services are in great demand, therefore more than one appointment per day per student is not allowed (unless the tutor has no other appointments or walk-ins). Tutor reserves the right to deny service in such situations.
- Back-to-back appointments by students in the same group for the same paper are not allowed. Tutor reserves the right to deny service in such situations.
- Students must bring a paper version of their document to the writing center.
Please be considerate and mindful of others' needs as much as yours, and allow processing time between appointments for corrections/updates.
The Writing Center staff reserves the right to make adjustments to student appointments that are against the center's rules/expectations.
