In order to ensure an equitable recruiting process for employers and students alike, the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School's Career Services office has several MBA Employer Recruiting Policies of which all companies recruiting our MBA students should be aware. We ask students and employers to familiarize themselves with these policies, as both parties will be held accountable for their behavior as it relates to these guidelines.
Students are not permitted to miss class for any interviews. In order to avoid scheduling conflicts, we ask that you offer at least two interview timeslot options. If you plan to interview on a weekday, we request that you do so in the Greater Baltimore area, and that you allow travel time from core classes, which end at noon. We encourage you to provide students with at least three days' notice for any out-of-town interviews, so that they can rearrange prior commitments. Our Harbor East campus has interview facilities available. Work with the Career Services team to secure a date and location for on-campus interviews.
First-year students should be given until Friday, February 24, 2011, before a company can mandate an acceptance of an offer. If an offer is extended during or after the start of First-Year On-Campus interviewing (January 24, 2011), students must be given at least three weeks from the date of the offer to consider their decision. An offer is not considered official, nor will students be required to indicate their acceptance of an offer, unless it is written in a mailed, faxed, or electronically sent letter. If a company has business needs that make adhering to this policy difficult, please discuss with your Career Services representative for an accommodation.
The Carey Business School expects any student accepting a job offer to honor their commitment to the accepted position and company. Career Services will not tolerate reneging on offers, as this not only affects the individual student's relationship with the affected company, but that of their classmates and the Johns Hopkins institution, as well. As a result, students who renege on an accepted offer will be subject to a number of penalties, as deemed appropriate by the Career Services officers. These penalties can include immediate elimination from the GMBA Resume Book, loss of all access to Job Postings and all Career Services resources, and suspension from the CSWorks computer system.
All companies who recruit Carey Business School Students, either on- or off-campus, should be aware of, and adhere to, our recruiting policies. The Career Services staff is happy to help you with any questions or to address any concerns that a company might have about these policies. However, there will be penalties should a company breach these policies. Depending on how egregious the violation, penalties can include but are not limited to: loss of priority scheduling status, restriction on student and event access, cancellation of on-campus events, and being added to a list of company violations, accessible to the Carey Business School community.
We are flexible on ways to consider our students for you positions. Let us know what works best for you and we will work with you to get resumes for your consideration.
