Recognizing accomplishments of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School faculty and staff

Professor Federico Bandi published “Market Microstructure Noise, Integrated Variance Estimators, and the Accuracy of Asymptotic Approximations” in the January issue of the Journal of Econometrics. His paper “time-varying leverage effects” has been accepted for inclusion in an upcoming issue. This summer, Bandi will serve on the Program Committee of the European Meeting of the Econometric Society, scheduled for August in Oslo, Norway.

Professor Douglas Hough is writing a book, tentatively titled Keep Your Government Hands off My Medicare: What Behavioral Economics Can Tell Us about Health Care and Health Care Reform (forthcoming, Stanford University Press). Hough’s work will explain some of the fundamental anomalies and seemingly contradictory behavior exhibited by patients, physicians, and society in general.

Thomas Crain, lecturer, was recently appointed chair of the Maryland Humanities Council. The council, established in 1973, uses the humanities to bring diverse communities with different viewpoints and backgrounds together, promoting conversations on issues critical to Marylanders while helping build an informed, engaged, civically active society.

William Agresti, professor, has been named to the editorial board of Expert Systems with Applications. The publication’s focus is on exchanging information relating to expert and intelligent systems applied in industry, government, and universities worldwide. Agresti brings his background and research in knowledge discovery and data mining systems to the board.
