Student Activities

A range of student activities complement the LDP classroom learning experience. In addition to regularly assigned coursework, students:

  • participate in special internship opportunities with organizations such as QVC, Inc., and the Maryland State Treasurer;
  • learn from senior executive lecturers who address critical leadership and management issues;
  • work with Hopkins Career Services to explore career options;
  • develop mentoring relationships with faculty and advisory board members;
  • form an ongoing academic community for shared learning;
  • join the LDP Alumni Association for networking, peer mentoring, and other career enhancement opportunities.

Student and Alumni Profile

The LDP enrolls minority men and women who have a minimum of five years professional experience and have demonstrated potential for success in their careers. Successful candidates have the background, enthusiasm, and motivation to join and participate in a select leadership, development, and skills enhancement program.

More than 280 LDP graduates are advancing their careers in business, government, and the public sector, in the region and nationally.

LDP graduates continue to make significant contributions to their communities. An active, formal network of LDP alumni works closely with current students as mentors and role models, supporting the program through events, seminars, and cooperative projects.

An Award Winning Program

The LDP program is nationally recognized for innovation and excellence, receiving the Distinguished Program Award from the Association for Continuing Higher Education and the Certificate of Excellence from the University Continuing Education Association. For five consecutive years, 1994 through 1998, LDP graduates participated on Johns Hopkins case competition teams that garnered a first-place and three second-place finishes at the National Black MBA Association Student Case Competition. The Johns Hopkins teams have competed successfully against full-time MBA students from Columbia University, University of California at Berkeley, Duke, MIT, Stanford, Michigan, Wharton, and New York University.
