Kayode Williams CV

Dr. Williams earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1984, where he also earned a Diploma in Anesthesia in 1988. Following training at renowned medical institutions such as the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Dr. Williams completed his residency in anesthesiology in England in 1995. Subsequently, he became a Fellow of Faculty of Anesthesia, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFARCSI) also in 1995. Dr. Williams joined the University of Michigan in 1997, completed second residency training in Anesthesiology in 2001, fellowship in Pain Medicine in 2002, and received an M.B.A. degree from the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan in 2004. He remained on the faculty of the Division of Pain Medicine, and the Liver Transplant Anesthesiology team at The University of Michigan until 2005. Dr. Williams joined the Division of Pain Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Critical care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2005 to develop new private practice venture, and to extend the Pain Division’s reach beyond the confines of the academic milieu and into the community. He was the Director of the Hopkins Pain Center at White Marsh till June 2009.

From 2009 to 2011 he assumed the Directorship of the Blaustein Pain Center Johns Hopkins where he has helped lead the improvements in service excellence, patient safety, operations, residents and fellow education. In collaboration with faculty at the Carey Business School Johns Hopkins helped to develop a novel approach to evaluating disparate healthcare operations such as private practice and academic pain centers with a view to enhancing operational throughput and efficiency. The approach has also been utilized to examine the impact of resident education on service delivery in the academic setting also with a view to enhancing teaching models in the setting of service delivery.

Dr. Williams focus is on translational research in neuromodulation, with emphasis on the mechanisms and efficacy of spinal cord stimulation in neuropathic pain, peripheral neuropathies, and peripheral vascular disease. His interest in the business of Medicine is prompted by the desire to enhance value proposition for physician groups and hospitals through effective resource management. Dr. Williams’ business focus is on operations management, specialty practice development, acute in-patient revenue cycle management and medical management consulting.
