Admission Criteria
At the Carey Business School, we consider a range of criteria when reviewing applications for admission:
- A cumulative B (3.0) grade-point average in undergraduate studies
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (if applicants earned degrees or credit from educational institutions abroad, their academic records must be evaluated by a credential evaluation agency
before they can be considered for admission) - A resume, exhibiting:
- a minimum of two years of full-time progressive work experience after completion of undergraduate studies
- strong potential for success as a student, leader, and manager
- active community involvement
- An essay, demonstrating excellent communication skills and stating clear personal and professional goals
- Letters of recommendation for specified degree, certificate, or post-master's programs. Note: there is no standard form, but the recommended format is a signed business letter on letterhead from colleagues in a supervisory/managerial position. These colleagues should know the applicant well, be aware of the applicant's academic/professional goals, and believe that the applicant is a suitable candidate for the program for which the applicant is applying.
- GMAT
or GRE
scores for specified degree or certificate programs - For non-native speakers, provide TOEFL scores (preferred minimums: 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based, or 100 Internet-based and must have been taken within the last two years). To request a waiver from the TOEFL, download the TOEFL Waiver Request Form and submit it to the Office of Admissions.
Application Essay
The Admissions Committee at the Carey Business School wants to understand if what students want out of a program coincides with what the curriculum has to offer. Applicants are encouraged to write a complete essay including information regarding the following:
- What are my learning needs? What are the skills and competencies I want to develop?
- What are my career goals? What does that look like short-term and long-term?
- What outcomes am I expecting as a result of my graduate experience? What do I want this graduate program to enable me to do?
- How will this graduate program enable me to meet the needs and goals I've identified?
Transfer of Graduate Credit
- You may transfer a maximum of six credits earned at another regionally accredited college or university
- May vary by program but cannot exceed six credits
Admission to Other Schools in the University
If you are a Carey Business School student who wishes to transfer to one of the other schools in the university (such as Engineering, Public Health, or Peabody), you are required to submit an admissions application to that school. Admission to the Carey Business School establishes no claim or priority for admission to any other school in the university.
