The Berman Institute Mission
Berman Institute noncredit courses, conferences, and workshops
A continuing mission of the Berman Institute is public service through conferences, workshops, and roundtables that provide ongoing continuing professional education programs and services for real estate professionals who seek to advance their careers. A sampling of activities includes the following initiatives.
- Through ongoing joint ventures with professional organizations— including the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI)— the department offers continuing educational opportunities for real estate professionals.
- Customized programs have been designed for the real estate community, including senior real estate officers from financial institutions and the real estate arm of the federal government’s General Services Administration.
- Alumni of the real estate program have established the Johns Hopkins Real Estate Forum to support the department’s efforts to provide continuing education to its members and the community at large. The Forum is the university’s recognized association of alumni, students, faculty, and advisory board members.
- The program provides a secure website for Forum members to network and enhance their careers, an extension of which is the Job Opportunities webpage. This site is popular with national recruiters and alumni-owned companies.
- A Johns Hopkins Urban Leadership Award is presented annually to major figures in the urban development community.
- Faculty continue to represent the program at the annual meetings of industry-affiliated associations and institutes, including NAIOP, AFIRE, ULI, and PREA (Pension Real Estate Association).
